Frequently Asked Questions for Signmakers

Check back often as we will be adding more FAQs as we get them.

Q: What does it mean to surface at the bottom of plate? What's the top?
I will answer this question with a question. Where do you calibrate your tools on your machine? Is it on top of the work surface or material or is it on top of the spoil board (bottom of material). Surface at top of plate means that you calibrate your tools on top of your material (Z value is ZERO here). Surface at bottom of plate means that you calibrate your tools at top of spoil board or bottom of material (Z value is ZERO here).

Q: When I nest my job it doesn't nest; instead it positions everything in the corner as they appear on the screen. Why?
Probably because every part is grouped. For example, EnRoute see's 3 grouped stars as one object. Try ungrouping, selecting all and re-nesting.

Q:I am trying to copy from one layer to another but when I go to paste to a new layer, it just shows me a bounding box and nothing inside. Why?
This is because you are just pasting your selected object(s) back in the same position/layer. Instead of pasting (Ctrl + V), try pasting to Active Layer (Ctrl+Shift+V). This should do the trick!

Q: I am trying to import a raster image into EnRoute and it will not import, why?
There are 3 types of raster images (.bmp, .tiff & .jpeg). EnRoute will import a .bmp file. If you file is either a .jpeg or .tiff, save it as a .bmp file and it should import successfully.

Q:The values in my G Code seem to be incorrect and larger then expected, why?
Are you expecting lower values? This could be because your driver is set up for millimeters and your machine is expecting inches. Hit F6 on your keyboard and under your driver units you can confirm these settings to match your machine.

Q: When applying a tool path, I cannot specify one pass only.
Probably because your cut height (H1) of your tool is smaller then the depth you are trying to reach in your tool path. To correct this first physically measure the cut height of your tool. If it is indeed long enough to reach your target depth, go into your tool Library (F5) and select that tool. There you can change the cut height. Make sure you save your updated changes by clicking the save option before exiting the tool library. Now apply your tool path with the updated tool.

Q: I am trying to tool path a 3D mesh object I imported but my tool path options are grayed out.
You cannot tool path a mesh object. You can only tool path a relief. Try applying your mesh object onto an existing relief (Surface> apply mesh). Now after positioning updated relief into material you should be able to tool path.

Q: After creating my relief how can I export out of EnRoute to use or view in other 3D software?
Yes. Select your relief and surface> Mesh from relief. You will than be able to take the mesh object created and export it out of EnRoute as a .dxf file.
